Teaching Methods used by Faculty Members of Arabic Language for Non-Native Speakers in Jordanian Universities

Abstract

The aim of this study is to discern teaching methods used by faculty members of teaching Arabic language for non-native speakers from their perspectives. Members of the study includes faculty members of teaching Arabic for non-native speakers in Jordan universities, and it amounts to (36) faculty members of teaching Arabic for non-native speakers, namely University of Jordan, World Islamic Sciences and Education University, Al Al-Bayt University, and Yarmouk University, which were intentionally selected. The researchers have made a questioner consisting of two parts: while the first part includes information about the faculty members such as their gender, experience, and the academic rank, the second part includes (14) teaching methods of Arabic for non-native speakers. The questioner has been divided into five degrees according to Likert scale. The study has concluded the following results: while the silent, the natural and the cognitive teaching methods have obtained the highest ratings, total physical response, communicative approach and situational approaches have obtained the lowest ratings. And there are difference statistical significance level that due to the gender variable. Moreover, the study has concluded that there are no differences as to the statistical significance level (α=0.05) that due to the following variables: (teaching experience, and academic ranking).

الملخص

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تعرّف طرائق التدريس التي يستخدمها أعضاء هيئة تدريس اللّغة العربيّة للناطقين بغيرها من وجهة نظرهم. شمل أفراد الدراسة أعضاء هيئة التدريس في الجامعات الأردنيّة والبالغ عددهم (36) عضوا تدريسيّا للّغة العربيّة للناطقين بغيرها اختيروا من الجامعات : (الأردنيّة، والعلوم الإسلاميّة العالميّة، وآل البيت، واليرموك). أعد الباحثان استبانة مكونة من جزأين، تضمّن الجزء الأول بيانات خاصّة بأعضاء هيئة تدريس(الجنس، سنوات الخبرة، الرتبة الأكاديميّة). أمّا الجزء الثاني فقد شمل طرائق التدريس الخاصّة بتعليم اللّغة العربيّة للناطقين بغيرها وتكونت من (14) طريقة. وتدرجت الاستبانة بحسب مقياس ليكرت إلى خمس درجات. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى النتائج الآتية: أن الطرائق (الصامتة، والطبيعيّة، والمعرفيّة) نالت أعلى التقديرات، في حين نالت الطرائق (الاستجابة الجسديّة الكليّة، والتواصليّة، والمواقف) أقل التقديرات. وأنّ هناك فرق دال إحصائيّا عند مستوى الدلالة (α=0.05) تعزى إلى متغير الجنس. وأنّه لا توجد فروق دالة إحصائيّا عند مستوى الدلالة (α=0.05) تعزى إلى متغيري (الخبرة التدريسيّة، والرتبة العلميّة).
