The Impact of using STS Approach according to Scientific Curiosity among Basic Stage Students in Palestine in Acquiring Scientific Values

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of using STS approach based on scientific curiosity among basic stage students in Palestine in acquiring scientific values. The sample of the study consists of (59) female 9th grade students, was distributed over two groups; the first was taught by using STS approach, and the second was taught using the traditional method. The instructional material based on STS, and the scientific values scale, and Campbell’s scientific curiosity scale were prepared. Then the tool of the study was pre-applied on both experimental and control groups. The tool of the study then posts applied on both groups. The results of the study were statistically analyzed using 2-way ANCOVA (2X 2). Statistical treatments have shown that the STS approach has appeared impact in the experimental group compared to the control group in the acquiring of scientific values. Based on that, it was recommended to use STS approach in science teaching.

الملخص

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى استقصاء أثر منحى STS وفق الاستطلاع العلمي لدى طلبة المرحلة الأساسية في فلسطين في اكتساب القيم العلمية.تكونت عينة الدراسة من (59) طالبة من طالبات الصف التاسع الأساسي، تم توزيعها في مجموعتين؛ الأولى درست باستخدام منحى STS، والثانية درست بالطريقة الإعتيادية. وتم إعداد المادة التعليمية المبنية وفق منحى STS، كما تم إعداد مقياس القيم العلمية، واستخدام مقياس الاستطلاع العلمي الذي أعده كامبل.تم تطبيق أدوات الدراسة تطبيقاً قبلياً على مجموعتي الدراسة، وتم تدريس المجموعة التجريبية من خلال المادة التعليمية المبنية وفق منحى STS، فيما درست المجموعة الضابطة بالطريقة الاعتيادية. وتم تطبيق أداة الدراسة تطبيقاً بعدياً على مجموعتي الدراسة، وجمعت البيانات وحللت إحصائياً من خلال استخدام تحليل التباين الثنائي المصاحب (2×2).وقد أظهرت المعالجة الإحصائية أن منحى STS قد ظهر أثره في المجموعة التجريبية مقارنة بالمجموعة الضابطة في اكتساب القيم العلمية. وبناء على ذلك؛ أوصت الدراسة بتضمين منحى STS في التدريس من قبل معلمي العلوم لدى طالبات الصف التاسع الأساسي في فلسطين.
