The Perceptions of High School Basic Stage Teachers towards the Importance of Using Social Media Tools in the Educational Process in Jordan

Abstract

This study aimed to find out teachers perceptions of the importance of using social media in the educational and learning process. The study was based on a survey descriptive methods. Information was collected through the questionnaire. The study population included all the teachers of the upper primary stage in the public and private schools of the Ministry of Education in Jordan for the academic year 2016/2017. The study population consisted from (37703) male and female teachers. The sample of the study consisted of (2133) teachers, 766 males and 1,367 females, who were randomly selected. After conducting the appropriate statistical analysis, the study revealed that the perceptions of the teachers of the upper primary stage in Jordan of the importance of using social media in the educational process in general were moderate, there were no statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) of the importance of using social media due to the variable of gender on areas of knowledge, skill and the social and macro domains, while there were statistically significant differences in the value field in favor of female teachers, there were statistically significant differences at the level of (α = 0.05) of the importance of using social media due to scientific qualification variable on each field of study and the tool as a whole in favor of those with the highest academic qualification, there were statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) of the importance of using social media due to years of experience variable in each field of study and the tool as a whole in favor of the experience from (1-5) years and more than (10-15) years, there were no statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) of the school type variable.

الملخص

هدفت الدراسة التعرف إلى تصورات معلمي المرحلة الأساسية العليا في الأردن نحو أهمية استخدام وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي في العملية التعليمية، وتكونت عينة الدراسة من (2133) معلماً ومعلمةً، اختيروا بالطريقة الطبقية العشوائية من المدارس الحكومية والخاصة في محافظات (عمان، الزرقاء، وإربد، الكرك)، واتبعت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي المسحي باستخدام الاستبانة، وبعد تفريغ الاستبانات ومعالجتها إحصائياً، توصلت الدراسة إلى النتائج الآتية: - أن تصورات معلمي المرحلة الأساسية العليا في الأردن نحو أهمية استخدام وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي في العملية التعليمية على نحوٍ عام جاءت متوسطة. - لا توجد فروق دالة إحصائياً عند مستوى الدلالة (α = 0.05) لأهمية الاستخدام تبعاً لمتغير الجنس على المجال المعرفي والمجال المهاري والمجال الاجتماعي والكلي، بينما وجدت فروق دالة إحصائياً عند المجال القيمي ولصالح الإناث. - توجد فروق دالة إحصائياً عند مستوى الدلالة (α = 0.05) لأهمية الاستخدام تبعاً لمتغير المؤهل العلمي على كل مجال من مجالات الدراسة وعلى الأداة ككل لصالح ذوي المؤهل العلمي الأعلى أي لصالح ذوي بكالوريوس ودراسات العليا. - توجد فروق دالة إحصائياً عند مستوى الدلالة (α = 0.05) لأهمية الاستخدام تبعاً لمتغير سنوات الخبرة على كل مجال من مجالات الدراسة وعلى الأداة ككل لصالح ذوي الخبرة من (1-5) سنوات وأكثر من (10-15) سنة. - لا توجد فروق دالة إحصائياُ عند مستوى الدلالة (α = 0.05) تبعاً لمتغير نوع المدرسة على مجالات الأهمية.
