Evaluation of the 9th grade life skills' curriculum in Sultanate of Oman according to entrepreneurship competencies

Abstract

The current study aimed to reveal the effectiveness of 9th Grade life skills' curriculum in Sultanate of Oman to achieve entrepreneurship competencies at South Batina Governate in Sultanate of Oman. The study sample was consisted of 61 life skills teachers (both males and females) in addition to the 9th life skills’ textbook. Two tools were used to collect raw data: the questionnaire which included 36 items that were distributed into 8 sections (self- awareness, decision making, taking responsibility & independence, communication, creativity & innovation, initiative & ambition, project management, and taking risk) and the curriculum content analysis card. The findings showed a compatible between the relevant teachers’ points of view and the content analysis in some entrepreneurship competencies such as (project management, communication, decision making) and non-compatible in other competencies such as (self-awareness, taking responsibility & independence, creativity & innovation, initiation & ambition, and risk-taking). According to the findings, the study recommended holding a training workshops for the life skills teachers and improving the life skills’ curricula of all different grades taking into account the educational goals and policies which aim for sustainable development related to the entrepreneurship to enable the students to establish their leadership businesses in the future.

الملخص

هدفت الدراسة الحالية إلى الكشف عن مدى فاعلية منهاج المهارات الحياتية للصف التاسع الأساسي في سلطنة عمان في تحقيق كفايات ريادة الأعمال. تكونت عينة الدراسة من (61) معلماً ومعلمة من معلمي المهارات الحياتية بمحافظة جنوب الباطنة، ومحتوى كتاب المهارات الحياتية للصف التاسع الأساسي. استخدمت أداتان لجمع البيانات هما مقياس الكفايات الريادية (الاستبانة) التي اشتملت على (36) فقرة موزعة على ثمانية محاور هي (الوعي الذاتي، اتخاذ القرار، الاستقلالية وتحمل المسئولية، الاتصال والتواصل، الإبداع والابتكار، المبادرة والطموح، إنشاء وإدارة المشاريع، المخاطرة)، وبطاقة تحليل محتوى المنهاج. أظهرت النتائج وجود اتفاق بين وجهات نظر المعلمين ونتائج تحليل المحتوى في مدى تحقيق منهاج الصف التاسع لبعض الكفايات الريادية وهي (إدارة المشاريع، والاتصال والتواصل، واتخاذ القرار)، وعدم اتفاق في الكفايات الريادية الأخرى وهي (الوعي الذاتي، الاستقلالية وتحمل المسئولية والابداع والابتكار، والمبادرة والطموح، والمخاطرة). وفي ضوء نتائج الدراسة أوصت بأهمية تأهيل المعلمين من خلال ورش العمل المتخصصة، وتطوير مناهج المهارات الحياتية في مختلف مراحل التعليم المدرسي بما يتلاءم مع أهداف التربية وسياسات التعليم التي تهدف إلى التنمية المستدامة المتعلقة بريادة الأعمال لإكساب الطلبة الكفايات الريادية اللازمة، لتمكنهم من تأسيس المشاريع الريادية مستقبلاً.
