The Relationship between Family Parental Styles and Achieving Psychological Identity among Adolescents

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parental styles and the achieving of psychological identity among adolescents. The sample of the study consisted of (78) male and female students chosen randomly. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher administrated two instruments, the first to explore the parentqal styles consisted of (4) items distributed into two fields, each contains four domains. The second is to explore the adolescent's achievement of his psychological Identity, consisted of (60) items distributed into tow domains. The findings of the study showed that the dominant parental style was the democratic style and the dominant psychological identity status among adolescents is achieving this identity. Moreover, the findings showed that there was a positive significant relation between the democratic style and achieving the psychological identity and there was a positive relationship between authoritarian parental style and protection as well as neglecting and the closed identity as well as disordered identity. On other hand there was a negative relationship between acceptance styles and the closed identity as well as disordered identity. And there was a positive relation between abandoned style and closed psychological identity.

الملخص

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى الكشف عن العلاقة بين أنماط التنشئة الأسرية، وتحقيق المراهق لهويته النفسية. تكونت عينة الدراسة من (78) طالباً وطالبةً، تم اختيارها بالطريقة العشوائية. ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة تم استخدام أداتين الأولى للكشف عن أنماط التنشئة الأسرية، وتكونت من (47) فقرة، موزعة على مجالين، يتضمن كل مجال أربعة أبعاد، والثانية للكشف عن تحقيق المراهق لهويته النفسية، وتكونت من (60) فقرة موزعة على بُعدين. أظهرت نتائج الدراسة أنّ نمط التنشئة الأسرية السائد هو النمط الديمقراطي، وأن حالة الهوية النفسية الشائعة لدى المراهقين هي تحقيق الهوية النفسية، وأشارت النتائج أيضاً إلى وجود علاقة إيجابية دالة إحصائياً بين النمط الديمقراطي، وتحقيق الهوية النفسية، ووجود علاقة إيجابية دالة إحصائياً بين نمط التنشئة التسلطي، والحماية، والإهمال، وبين منغلق الهوية النفسية، واضطراب الهوية النفسية، ووجود علاقة سلبية دالة إحصائياً بين نمط التقبل، ومنغلق الهوية النفسية، واضطراب الهوية النفسية، ووجود علاقة إيجابية دالة إحصائياً بين نمط النبذ، ومنغلق الهوية النفسية.
