Dr. Loay Abu Alsaud

Associate Professor of Palestinian Archeology and Head of the Department of Tourism and Archeology at An-Najah National University. He received his BA from the Department of Archeology at An-Najah National University in 2001. He completed his university education by obtaining a scholarship from the Spanish International Cooperation Agency of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to complete my degree Masters and Ph.D. at the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain during the period between 2001-2007, where he specialized in Roman antiquities and dealt in the dissertation Neapolis/ Nablus during the Roman rule.In 2007, he worked with the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the field of archaeological rescue excavations. He also worked as a part-time academic supervisor at Al-Quds Open University for several years. From 2012 to the present he has been working as a lecturer in the Department of Tourism and Archeology at An-Najah National University. He has published a number of distinguished scientific researches focusing in general on the the archeology of Palestine, and in particular the history and archeology of the Neapolis. He wrote about Islamic shrines, especially the shrine of Joseph in Nablus, Khirbet al-Kiliya, east of Ramallah, Khirbet Deir Sharaf, west of Nablus, Tal Sufan, Khirbet Aqbat al-Qadi, Bir Yaqoub etc.He also wrote a scientific research in partnership with his colleagues at An-Najah National University on teaching the “Discover Palestine” open source (MOOC) course, where he participated in publishing scientific research in a distinguished scientific journal in the field of open e-learning in the International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning. He also wrote about hands-on archeology in the Encyclopedia of Global Archeology at Flinders University / Australia under the supervision of archaeologist Claire Smith in 2021 through a project funded by An-Najah National University.In addition, he wrote about the new Palestinian Antiquities Law issued in 2018 and translated it from Arabic to English language. Also, he wrote about the history and archeology of Palestine under Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine rule, and he published a scientific research on the crisis of the third century AD and its impact on Palestine and published another research on the Bal’ama tunnel in Jenin. Currently, his studies have focused recently on the study and analysis of the human skeletal remains of Roman and Byzantine tombs in the Nablus region, especially in the sites of Khirbet Aqbat Al-Qadi, Half Jbeil, Khirbet Sheikh Hamid, Bir Yaqoub, and currently the cemetery of Jat and Khirbet Sheikh Hamid, where he published two scientific articles in Radiocarbon journal.
As for the archaeological excavations, he conducted archaeological excavations within a practical training course on archeology for students majoring in archeology at Tal Sufan since 2013 till 2020. In addition to many rescue archaeological excavations in various archaeological sites in the Nablus province in partnership and cooperation with the Palestinian Department of Antiquities in Ramallah, especially in excavations were carried out at the sites of Khirbet Uqbat al-Qadi, Khirbet al-Sheikh Hamid, Harat al-Habla in the old city of Nablus, and Khirbet Bir al-Hamam in what is known as the Palestinian House on Mount Gerizim. He is currently working at the site of Tell al-Talul in Anabta, in cooperation with the French Institute for the Near East and the Palestinian Department of Antiquities.
In 2020, he received the first gold award for the best scientific research with the participation of 31 countries from different countries of the world in Indonesia, an award organized by the Bandung Creative Association in cooperation with the Indonesian Scientific Association in Bandung during the period between 29-31/8/2020 in the research competition International Research Competition for Young Scientist 2020.
