Dr. Maryam Hmoudah

Dr. Maryam Hmoudah is specializing in sustainable wastewater treatment solutions. She earned her Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering from An-Najah National University (2009), a Master's from the University of Calgary, and a joint PhD from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, and Åbo Akademi University, Finland, focusing on advanced materials such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and MXenes for removing pharmaceutical and dye pollutants from water. She was awarded the prestigious Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Fellowship, supporting outstanding women scientists from developing countries.
Her research emphasizes optimizing the efficiency, affordability, and scalability of adsorbents and photocatalysts for developing regions, with detailed kinetic modeling and reactor design analysis to understand water purification mechanisms. Back in Palestine, she leads critical research at An-Najah National University, addressing daily water scarcity challenges.
Beyond research, Dr. Hmoudah is a dedicated educator, mentor, and advocate for women in STEM. She teaches chemical engineering courses, supervises students, and serves as faculty advisor for the AIChE Student Chapter, guiding students academically, technically, and in leadership development. Her work exemplifies how scientific innovation, combined with purpose and perseverance, can provide practical, sustainable solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
