Abstract
Abstract: Objectives: This study aimed to identify the levels of both nomophobia and digital stress syndrome, and to examine the predictive ability of nomophobia dimensions for digital stress among Yarmouk University students. Methodology: The study employed a descriptive correlational-analytical approach and was applied to a convenience sample of (826) students from Yarmouk University during the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The Nomophobia Scale (16 items distributed across four dimensions) and the Digital Stress Scale (23 items distributed across six dimensions) were administered after confirming their validity and reliability. Key Findings: The results indicated that the level of nomophobia among students was moderate (M = 3.23), with the dimension "not being able to communicate " showing a higher mean score (M = 3.50). The level of digital stress was also moderate (M = 2.90), with the dimension "communication overload " having the highest mean (M = 3.06). Correlation analyses revealed significant positive associations between the dimensions of nomophobia and digital stress syndrome. Furthermore, the dimensions of giving up convenience and losing connectedness jointly explained 53.1% of the variance in digital stress syndrome. Conclusions: The study concluded that psychological and emotional attachment to smartphones is associated with higher levels of digital stress among students, highlighting the importance of promoting balanced technology use. Recommendations: The study recommends developing counseling programs and awareness initiatives to regulate smartphone use and reduce digital stress.
