The contribution of the parenting styles and the social halo in predicting the choice of the academic track for the tenth grade students in Jordan

Abstract

The study aimed at revealing the contribution of parenting styles and social halo in predicting the choice of the academic track among the students of the tenth grade. The study sample consisted of (300) students. The results showed that parental styles, social halo, and gender contributed to predicting the choice of the academic track. Specifically, there were statistically significant differences between males and females on the choice of the academic track for females while there was no statistically significant difference in the social halo scale. Males had higher scores than females on the authoritarian and permissive parenting styles while females had higher scores in authoritative parenting style than males.

الملخص

هدفت الدراسة إلى الكشف عن مساهمة أساليب التنشئة الوالدية والهالة الاجتماعية في التنبؤ باختيار المسار الأكاديمي لدى طلبة الصف العاشر الأساسي، وتكونت عينة الدراسة من (300) طالباً وطالبة. أظهرت النتائج أن أساليب التنشئة الوالدية والهالة الاجتماعية والجنس ساهمت في التنبؤ باختيار المسار الأكاديمي، وأن هناك فروق دالة إحصائياً بين الذكور والإناث على مقياس اختيار المسار الأكاديمي لصالح الإناث، وعدم وجود فرق دال إحصائياً على مقياس الهالة الاجتماعية، وفي أسلوبي المعاملة المتسلط والمتساهل لصالح الذكور، وفي أسلوب المعاملة الحازم لصالح الإناث.
