Abstract

This study aimed at revealing the role of the school Islamic culture textbooks for the first and second secondary classes, in the outspread of the dialogue culture and tolerance in Jordan. It endeavored to present a proposed classification for dialogue and tolerance principles, which could be enclosed in the school Islamic culture textbooks. Thus, the first and second secondary textbooks were included in the population of the study. The researcher developed a classification for dialogue and tolerance principles that reached about 17 principles after displaying them to seven judges to insure the validity of the instrument. To verify its reliability the researcher analyzed the content of the Islamic culture textbooks with another analyst, the percentage of the agreement between the two analysts reached 86.1%. The researcher analyzed the textbooks and estimated the frequencies and the percentages to answer the questions of the study. The results showed the non-existence of many of the principles of dialogue and tolerance in the school Islamic culture textbooks of the secondary stage in Jordan. In addition to that, there was a less interest in some principles, no systematic discipline, and no comprehensiveness, integration and equilibrium in others. The study recommended the necessity for the inclusion of dialogue and tolerance principles in the Islamic culture textbooks. Moreover, it suggested the necessity of maintaining comprehensiveness, integration and equilibrium in an organized and planned method.
