Although postmodern architecture encompasses several trends, the design process philosophies adopted by these trends can be categorized within two mainstreams: Creativity -based architect design, and participation-based community design. The research underscores the problem of inefficiency of both approaches concerning creating a sense of belonging, attachment and self-continuity in societies with intercultural patterns. The research objective is to formulate and to propose a design approach to deal effectively with intercultural communities. The aim has been achieved through the use of a descriptive analysis methodology containing three themes: First, studying the correlation between attachment, self-continuity and vernacular architecture. Second, signifying participatory design in contemporary architectural theories, and testing its validity for applying in intercultural societies as far as some indicators extracted from the research literature review are concerned. Third, developing a proposed methodology to suit big cities and intercultural societies. The research concluded with some relevant results such as: - Contaminating with human spiritual and physical needs, place and time is an indicator of the sense of credibility in the built environment and, at the same time, attachment and sense of belonging. - Community participation provided the construction process with the vision of design and thus was one of the most important pillars of the credibility of the construction product. - The mechanisms of community participation and continuity with the collective subconscious of users can be developed to suit contemporary life and multicultural communities.

رغم تعدد تيارات ما بعد الحداثة المعمارية الا ان فلسفة العملية التصميمية التي تتبناها هذه الاتجاهات لا تخرج عن مسارين: التصميم المستند علي ابداع المعماري والتصميم المستند علي مشاركة المستخدمين، ويبرز البحث مشكلة عدم كفاءة كلا المسارين في تعزيز الشعور بالانتماء والتواصل النفسي في المجتمعات ذات البنية الثقافية المركبة، ويهدف البحث الي اقتراح منهجية في التصميم مستخلصة من ايجابيات العمران الشعبي والمتمثلة في التصميم التشاركي والتواصل مع اللاوعي الجمعي للمستخدمين للتناسب مع واقع المجتمعات العمرانية المركبة، وقد تحقق هذا الهدف وفقا لمنهج وصفي تحليلي ارتكز علي ثلاثة محاور: اولا؛ دراسة مفهوم التواصل النفسي والانتماء ودراسة وتحليل النهج التصميمي في المجتمعات التقليدية ورصد الركائز التي كفلت لهذا العمران تحقيق التواصل النفسي والانتماء عند المستخدمين، ثانيا؛ الوقوف علي اهم نظريات التصميم التشاركي المعاصرة في العمارة وتحليلها وفقا للمرتكزات والمؤشرات المستخلصة من الاطار النظري، ثالثا؛ صياغة منهجية مقترحة لتطوير العملية التصميمية بما يتلاءم مع واقع المدن الكبرى والمجتمعات المركبة وقد خلص البحث الي مجموعة من النتائج منها: - ان التواصل مع الانسان والمكان والزمان يعتبر مؤشرا لتحقق المصداقية في النتاج البنائي وفي الوقت نفسه للإحساس بالانتماء. - ان المشاركة الشعبية امدت العملية البنائية بالرؤى التصميمة وبالتالي كانت من اهم ركائز تحقق مصداقية النتاج البنائي. - ان اليات المشاركة الشعبية والتواصل مع اللاوعي الجمعي للمستخدمين يمكن تطويرها لتلائم الحياة المعاصرة وواقع المجتمعات العمرانية المركبة.
