The Inclusion of Service Learning Projects in the National and Civic Education Textbooks at the Upper Basic Cycle in Jordan

Abstract
This study aimed at identifying the most important service learning projects that should be emphasized in the national and civic textbooks in Jordan in the 8th, 9th and 10th grades at the upper basic cycle; and to identify the service learning projects that already exist in these textbooks, and how they were distributed. The study suggested a list of 27 service learning projects that were reviewed and approved. After analyzing the content of the three textbooks, it was found that they contained very few service learning projects in grades 8, 9, and 10 in the national and civic education textbooks. The number of these projects was only 7. The results of the study revealed no significant differences among the three books in terms of presenting the service learning projects. The study suggested a number of recommendations.

الملخص
هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تحديد أهم مشروعات التعلم الخدمي الواجب توافرها في كتب التربية الوطنية والمدنية في المرحلة الأساسية العليا في الصفوف الثامن والتاسع والعاشر، وإلى التعرف على ما هو موجود فعلياً في هذه الكتب، وعلى كيفية توزيعها فيها. تكونت عينة الدراسة من كتب التربية الوطنية والمدنية في المرحلة الأساسية العليا في الصفوف (الثامن، التاسع، العاشر) الأساسية للعام الدراسي 2010/2011. قدمت الدراسة قائمة احتوت (27) مشروعاً في صورتها النهائية بعد مراجعتها وإقرارها ، وبينت بتحليل الكتب الثلاثة المتقدمة قلة مشروعات التعلم الخدمي المتضمنة في كتب التربية الوطنية إذ بلغ عددها (7) مشروعات فقط، كما أظهرت نتائج الدراسة عدم وجود اختلاف في توزيع هذه المشروعات السبعة في هذه الكتب الثلاثة، وخرجت الدراسة بمجموعة من التوصيات.
