Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the preferred learning strategies among a sample of Al-Balqa Applied University and its relationship with motivation. To achieve this aim a random sample was selected containing (350) male and female students in the academic year of 2011/2012. Motivation strategies questionnaire developed by Pintrich et al, 1991 was administrated on the sample. The findings of the study showed that there is a high level of motivation among the sample of the study and the degree of learning strategies was in an average level. Moreover, there was a positive correlation relationship between motivation and learning strategies and there were no differences in the relationship attributed to gender, major and study level except for the relationship between the study level of the first and third years students in the favor of the first. The study recommended the need of the best use of this high level of motivation among students to learn and guide them to the most successful strategies that may increase their understanding of courses.
