Abstract

Nasir al-Din Al-Hamamy was one of the poets who was prominentt in the first Mamluk era. His name and poetry appear in books of literature, history, biography and criticism. He was known for his poetic nature, good nature and his ability in composing poetry. He was compared to other prominent poets in his time such as Siraj al din al Warraq, Abu al Hussein al jazar. Despite that, he was not given the appropriate attention by scholars. There were no attempts to gather his works or discuss his biography; only some studies that dealt with some of his poems and his style in the first Mamluk period in general, such as social poetry or puns, which Al-Hamamy was one of its pioneers. Hence came this research to: 1 - recollect the scattering news of his life in its various aspects. 2 – Survey his poetry in the reference books that dealt with poetry and literature in the Mamluk era.  The research Title was a reference to these two objectives, "Nasir al-Din Al-Hamamy: his life and what remains of his poetry". The research adopts the inductive, descriptive method, where the researcher seeks to learn the poet's life from his poetry. This came in two parts: The first dealt with his life, was distributed to the following headings: his name, surname, birth, attributes, work, culture, relations, his status in poetry and finally his death. The second documented what remains of his poetry, as following: A – It arranged his poetry according to the alphabetical order and presented his rhymes following the use of vowel markers from the most powerful (kasra) to the least powerful (isokon). B – It showed the differences between the narrators of Al-Hamamy's poetry at different levels (word, phrase, lines etc.). It also adopted the narratives mentioned in history books or transferred by the disciples of the poet. C – Many narrators mentioned the occasions where Al-Hammamy wrote his poetry, and some of them gave their attitudes in that poetry. The researcher was very keen to prove what they said referring to the poems in an attempt to facilitate the job of any future researchers. H – The research includes new novel arts such as Aldobat, Alozjal in the second part of it. Finally, the research mentioned the biography of other covered and unknowable literary figures associated with the live of Al-Hamamy and his poetry, and introduced those that are known to every scholar of poetry of the first Mamluk era.
