Abstract
The purpose of this contrastive study is to show the function of two morphemes in language usage. The first one is "ma" in Arabic; the other is "what" in English. The study explains the similarities and differences which appear through the using aspects in each language. The important similarities which the study shows are found in interrogative, relative, and exclamation. Meanwhile the differences are found in structure and some functions which belong to each morpheme. The study also shows some expecting difficulties in learning both languages as foreign ones.
