Abstract
This study aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of elementary teacher education program at Yarmouk University in light of the national standards of teacher’s professional development as perceived by students, and whether there would be statistically significant differences in the students’ estimations of the program effectiveness due to their specializations (Class teacher, child education). To achieve the aims of the study, a (56) Likert item scale distributed on the seventh domains of teachers’ professional development national standards - issued by Jordanian ministry of education in 2006- was constructed and applied on the sample of the study which was consisted of (279) male and female students; (80) of them in child education specialization and (199) in class teacher specialization during the second semester of the academic year 2011/2012. The results of the study revealed that the effectiveness of the elementary teacher education program at Yarmouk University on the overall scale was moderate, where the teaching ethics domain ranked first with high degree, academic and pedagogical knowledge ranked second with high degree, teaching implementing domain ranked third with high degree too, teaching planning domain ranked fourth with moderate degree, education in Jordan domain ranked fifth with moderate degree, evaluating learning students domain ranked sixth with moderate degree, and self development domain ranked last with moderate degree. The results also revealed that there were no statistically significant differences (α =0.05) between the students’ estimations of the effectiveness of the elementary teacher education program due to their specialization (Class teacher and child education).
