Abstract
This study aims to search the irony in the novelistic text. For this purpose, the study focuses on Mu'nis Al-Razzaz's novel Laylat Asal in which this technique is clearly materialized. The approach of the study takes two sides: the theoretical one that aims to identify the irony as well as its function in the Modern Literary Criticism. The other side is the practical one which studies the internal structure of the novelistic text to reveal the techniques, forms and functions by which the irony has been represented within the entire text.
