The Impact of Computer-based Teaching in the Development of Problem Solving Skills, Knowledge Acquisition and Attitudes towards Mathematics in Grade 12 Scientific Stream in the UAE

Abstract
The current study aimed to investigate the impact of the use of computers in teaching modeling and optemization and rates associated in time subjects in Mathematics for 12th grade on developing problem solving skills as well as students’ achievement and their attitudes towards mathematics. The study employed the Qusi-experimental approach. The study sample consisted of 50 female students in the 12th grade science streem at Al-Rifa Secondary School for girls during the second semester of the 2011\2012 academic year. Students were divided into two groups, 25 students in an experimental group which was taught maths with computers and a control group which was taught in the traditional way. The results of the study pointed to the positive impact of learning mathematics using computer software on the development of problem solving skills, achievement, and attitudes towards mathematics compared with students who studied in the traditional way. The results showed statistically significant differences at the level of (α = 0.05) between the experimental and control groups in each of the three variables.

أثر التدريس باستخدام الحاسوب في تنمية مهارة حل المشكلات والتحصيل المعرفي وتعديل الاتجاهات على طلبة الصف الثاني عشر العلمي في مادة الرياضيات في دولة الإمارات

الملخص
هدفت الدراسة الحالية إلى تقصي أثر استخدام الحاسوب في تدريس مواضيع النمذجة والأوفقية والمعدّلات المرتبطة بالزمن للصف الثاني عشر العلمي على تنمية مهارة حل المشكلة لدى الطالبات وعلى مستوى التحصيل والاتجاهات نحومادة الرياضيات. وقد استخدم الباحثان المنهج شبه التجريبي. وتكوّنت عينة الدراسة من 50 طالبة هن طالبات الصف الثاني عشر العلمي في مدرسة الرفاع الثانوية للبنات في الفصل الثاني للعام الدراسي 2011\2012 وتوزعن على شعبتين حيث تم اختيار الشعبة الأول كمجموعة تجريبية وتكونت من (25) طالبة درسن الموضوعات باستخدام الحاسوب والمجموعة الثانية كمجموعة ضابطة حيث درست بالطريقة التقليدية. وقد أشارت نتائج الدراسة إلى الأثر الإيجابي لتدريس مادة الرياضيات باستخدام الحاسوب على كل من تنمية مهارة حل المشكلة والتحصيل وتكوين اتجاهات إيجابية نحومادة الرياضيات مقارنة مع الطالبات اللاتي درسن الموضوعات نفسها بالطريقة التقليدية حيث أشارت النتائج إلى وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية عند مستوى الدلالة (0.05= α) بين المجموعتين التجريبية والضابطة في كل من المتغيرات الثلاثة لصالح المجموعة التجريبية.
