Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out the relationship between the variable of statistical anxiety and the trend towards it, on the one hand, and the achievement in the principles of statistics on the other hand, and to assess the predictive ability of the variables of scholastic achievement. To achieve the objectives of the study, the measure of statistical anxiety and the measure of students' attitudes towards statistics were applied to all students studying the "Principles of Statistics" (188) students; (105) males and (83) females during the second semester 2017/2018. The results showed that the achievement was associated with the other variables and the expected trend. All values were statistically significant (α = 0.05). The results of the regression analysis showed that the statistical anxiety and the trends towards it contributed to the interpretation of the variation in the grades of students in the principles of statistics. The variable of the trend towards statistics contributed more to the difference in the achievement scores in the total sample. The study recommended conducting more studies directed towards the use of some of the predictions related to the cognitive aspect and to some of the expectations from the emotional angle.
