Analysis of technology textbook for the tenth grade in Palestine according to the Standards for Technological Literacy

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the Technology textbook for tenth grade according to Standards for Technological Literacy (STL) issued by International Technology Education Association (ITEA). In order to achieve the aim of the study, the researchers used the analytical descriptive methodology, specifically the method of content analysis. The researchers used content analysis tool and translated the list of Standards for Technological Literacy (STL) issued by International Technology Education Association into Arabic. The list includes five domains as follow: The Nature of Technology, Technology and Society, Design, Abilities of the Technological World, and The Designed World (Technological Systems). The results of the study showed that the overall percentage of achieving the standards in the entire domains was (73%) which is high. Also, the results showed that the percentage of achievement of standards for each domain were respectively: The Nature of Technology, Technology and Society, Design, Abilities of the Technological world, all of which are high, and next the Designed World that has a moderate compliance. In light of the findings of the study, the researchers suggested a set of recommendations, the most important was the compliance with standards within the study units should be greater, and adopting the Standards of Technological Literacy in the analysis, evaluation, and development of technology curricula in Palestine should be higher.

الملخص

هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تحليل كتاب التكنولوجيا للصف العاشر في ضوء معايير التنور التكنولوجي ((Standards for Technological Literacy -STL للرابطة الدولية للتربية التكنولوجية (International Technology Education Association -ITEA)، ولتحقيق هدف الدراسة إستخدم الباحثون المنهج الوصفي (أسلوب تحليل المحتوى)، حيث تم إستخدام أداة تحليل المحتوى، وقاموا بترجمة قائمة معايير التنور التكنولوجي للرابطة الدولية للتربية التكنولوجية للعربية، حيث تضمنت خمسة محاور على النحو التالي: طبيعة التكنولوجيا، والتكنولوجيا والمجتمع، والتصميم، وقدرات العالم التكنولوجي، والعالم المصمم (الأنظمة التكنولوجية). وأظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن النسبة الكلية لتحقق المعايير في المحاور ككل بلغت (73%) وهي نسبة عالية، كما أظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن نسبة تحقق المعايير لكل محور جاءت على التوالي: طبيعة التكنولوجيا، والتكنولوجيا والمجتمع، والتصميم، وقدرات العالم التكنولوجي، وجميعها عالية، ثم العالم المصمم بنسبة متوسطة، وفي ضوء ما توصلت إليه الدراسة من نتائج خلص الباحثون إلى مجموعة من التوصيات، كان أهمها ضرورة إحتواء المعايير داخل الوحدات بشكل أكبر، وتبني قائمة معايير التنور التكنولوجي في تحليل وتقويم وتطوير مناهج التكنولوجيا بفلسطين.
