Social support and its relation to psychological rigidity among a sample of cancer patients in Taiz city

Abstract
The research aimed at identifying the relation between social support and psychological rigidity among a sample of cancer patients in Taiz City. The researcher used the descriptive correlative method. The research sample was 100 of the most frequently visiting patients to Alamal center for cancer therapy of both sexes. Two tools were used, namely the social support scale by the researcher and the psychological rigidity scale by Rola Alsafadi (2013). The research arrived at the following findings: - The level of psychological rigidity among cancer patients was below the average. - The level of social support among cancer patients was below the average. - There were no statistically significant differences at (≥α 0.05) in the level of psychological rigidity due to sex variable as both sexes got scores below the average. - There were no statistically significant differences at (≥α 0.05) in the level of social support due to sex variable as both sexes got scores below the average. - There was a positive and weak correlation between psychological rigidity and social support among cancer patients.

الملخص
هدفَ البحث الحالي إلى التعرف على العلاقة بين المساندة الاجتماعية و الصلابة النفسية لدى عينة من مرضى السرطان في مدينة تعز اليمن، وتم استخدام المنهج الكمي (الوصفي الارتباطي)، و تمثلت عينة البحث بــ (100) فرد من الجنسين الذين يترددون على مركز الأمل لعلاج السرطان في مدينة تعز، وتم اختيارهم بطريقة قصدية عشوائية بسيطة، وتم استخدم أداتين هما: مقياس المساندة الاجتماعية (إعداد الباحث)، ومقياس الصلابة النفسية إعداد رولا الصفدي (2013)، وتوصلت نتائج البحث إلى ما يلي: - أن مستوى الصلابة النفسية لدى مرضى السرطان كانت أقل من المتوسط الفرضي. - أن مستوى المساندة الاجتماعية لدى مرضى السرطان كانت أقل من المتوسط الفرضي. - ليس هناك فروق دالة إحصائياً عند مستوى (0.05≥α ( في مستوى الصلابة النفسية لدى مرضى السرطان تعزى لمتغير الجنس؛ فكلاهما قد حصلا على درجات أقل من المتوسط. - ليس هناك فروق دالة إحصائيا عند مستوى (0.05≥α (في مستوى المساندة الاجتماعية لدى مرضى السرطان تعزى لمتغير الجنس؛ فكلاهما قد حصلا على درجات أقل من المتوسط. - هناك علاقة ارتباطية موجبة وضعيفة بين الصلابة النفسية والمساندة الاجتماعية لدى مرضى السرطان.
