Abstract

This study sought to investigate the relationship between the degree of alienation and the prevailing academic identity style among Palestinian students at the University of Haifa, as well as to reveal the predictive power of alienation in the academic identity patterns among Palestinian students in 1948. The study followed the quantitative descriptive approach according to the random social survey method, as it is the appropriate method to achieve the purpose of the study. The study was applied to (242) Palestinian students studying at the University of Haifa, who were selected according to the probability sampling method using the simple random sampling method. The alienation scale prepared by (PUTNAM, 1978) was used, which consists of (40) items, and the academic identity scale prepared by (Was & Isaacason, 2008, which consists of (24) items). The study concluded that the degree of alienation was medium, and that the prevailing pattern of identity was the moratorium identity. The results also showed that the two dimensions of non-standard and impotence are among the dimensions of alienation which predict the academic identity and the two of them interpreted the proportion of (.116).
