Psychological Semantics of Favorite Colors among Higher Primary Stage Children in Hebron

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate higher primary school students, in Hebron District, preferences of colors, and to examine differences of theses preferences according to student gender, grade, and place of residence and to build a strategy for the implementation of colors in schools environment. A sample of (291) males and females, participated in the study, and a check-list of color cards was used as a study tool, both validity and reliability were guaranteed. Nonparametric tests were used to answer the research questions. The study concluded that the most important colors favored by students are: green, red, and blue, there are differences in the favorite colors due to gender, females preferred red, pink, yellow, & indigo, according to the place of residence, differences were found in preferring green in favor of the north residents and brown in favor of the south residents of Hebron district, and according to grade school, differences were found in preferring the red, green, brown and black colors in favor of fifth and sixth grades. The researcher, in light of the results, suggested a strategy for color employment in school environment, and came out with a set of recommendations.

الملخص

هدفت الدّراسة إلى استقصاء واقع الألوان التي يميل طلبة المرحلة الأساسيّة العليا في محافظة الخليل إلى تفضيلها، وفحص الفروق في درجات تفضيل الألوان باختلاف جنس الطّالب، والصّف الدّراسي، ومكان السّكن، وإلى بناء آلية مقترحة لتوظّيف اللون في البيئة المدرسيّة. طبقت الدّراسة على عيّنة قوامها 291 طالباً وطالبة، واستخدم الباحث مجموعة من بطاقات الألوان للاختيار من بينها كأداة للدّراسة، وتم التحقق من دلالات الصدق والثبات، وتم استخدام كلاً من اختبار مان- ويتني وكروسكال- واليس للإجابة عن أسئلة الدراسة، وقد خلصت الدّراسة إلى أنّ أهم الألوان التي يفضلها الطّلبة هي الأخضر والأحمر والأزرق، وأنّ هناك فروقاً في الألوان المفضّلة تعزى للجنس، إذ فضلت الإناث اللون الأحمر والزّهري والأصفر والنيلي، وفقاً لمكان السّكن، إذ وجدت فروق في كل من اللون الأخضر لصالح سكان شمال الخليل والبني لصالح سكان جنوب الخليل، وكذلك وفقاً للصّف الدّراسي، إذ وجدت فروق على كل من اللون الأحمر والأخضر والبني والأسود لصالح طلبة الصف الخامس والسادس. وقد بنى الباحث في ضوء النتائج آلية لتوظيف اللون في البيئة المدرسية، وخرجت كذلك بمجموعة من التوصيات.
