The effect of an educational program based on the Webquest on the development of critical thinking amongst first secondary students in Jordan

Abstract

The study aimed at finding out the effect of an educational program based on the Web Quest on the development of creative thinking skills (originality, fluency, flexibility) amongst first secondary students at the Computer Science Subject in Jordan. The two researchers followed the semi experimental approach in this study. The study consisted of (50) students of the first secondary grade students in Madaba secondary school for Boys – one of Madaba Directorate of Education schools in the academic year 2017/2018. The school was chosen because of being close to the researchers and suitable to the study conditions. The experimental and control groups were randomly assigned to the school. The experimental group was taught in the proposed program, while the members of the control group were taught in the usual manner. In order to achieve the objective of the study, the researchers used the Torrance test for creative thinking (verbal image A). The scale was applied to the control and experimental groups. The results of the study revealed the existence of a statistically significant difference (α = 0.05) in the level of creative thinking in general and in the sub skills (originality, fluency, flexibility) in particular and for the benefit of the experimental group.

الملخص

هدفت الدراسة إلى تقصي أثر برنامج تعليمي قائم على الويب كويست في تنمية مهارات التفكير الإبداعي بمهاراته (الطلاقة، المرونة، الأصالة) لدى طلاب الصف الأول الثانوي بمبحث الحاسوب في الأردن. واتبع الباحثان في هذه الدراسة المنهج شبه التجريبي، حيث تكونت عينة الدراسة من (50) طالبا من طلاب الصف الأول الثانوي في مدرسة مأدبا الثانوية الأولى للبنين التابعة لمديرية التربية والتعليم لقصبة مأدبا، وذلك في العام الدراسي 2017/2018 وقد تم اختيار المدرسة لملاءمتها لظروف الدراسة ولقربها من الباحثين، وقد تم تعيين المجموعتين الضابطة والتجريبية في تلك المدرسة عشوائيا، بحيث تم تدريس أفراد الشعبة التجريبية بالبرنامج المقترح، في حين تم تدريس أفراد الشعبة الضابطة بالطريقة الاعتيادية. ولتحقيق هدف الدراسة، قام الباحثان باستخدام اختبار تورانس للتفكير الإبداعي (الصورة اللفظية أ)، وقد تم تطبيق المقياس على المجموعتين الضابط والتجريبية، وقد كشفت نتائج الدراسة عن وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية عند مستوى (α=0.05)في مستوى التفكير الإبداعي بشكل عام، والمهارات الفرعية (الطلاقة، المرونة، الأصالة) ولصالح المجموعة التجريبية.
