Abstract

The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a group cognitive behavioral counseling program to reduce symptoms of depression and post-traumatic stress disorder in a sample of Libyan war wounded. The researcher used the quasi- experimental and descriptive analytical methods. The study population consisted of all Libyan wounded. The sample consisted of 34 wounded who received the highest score on the Zung scale to evaluate depression; the Mississippi scale for post-traumatic stress disorder, the researcher translated and developed the Zung Scale for Depression Evaluation and the Mississippi Scale of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The researcher also applied a collective counseling program in the light of cognitive behavioral theory. The appropriate statistical analyzes were conducted. The results of the study showed statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups on the total and sub-score of the Zung scale of depression and the Mississippi scale of post-traumatic stress disorder for the experimental group. Meanwhile, there were statistically insignificant differences in the level of depression and the level of PTSD in the injured due to these variables (social status, type of injury, educational level).
