Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to examine the role of public relations campaigns in influencing the enrollment decisions of new students in Palestinian universities by identifying the main motives affecting their choices, assessing the impact of communication channels in attracting them, and measuring their level of satisfaction with the information provided.
Methodology: The study employed a descriptive quantitative methodology using a questionnaire distributed to a simple random sample of 600 students enrolled in six Palestinian universities representing different regions of the West Bank.
Key Findings: The findings revealed that personal and academic motivations played a significant role in students' enrollment decisions, with friends' experiences and the availability of the desired academic major emerging as the most influential factors. Communication channels also significantly influenced enrollment decisions, with the university website being among the most influential sources. Social media platforms were the most common source of information (68.8%), with Facebook ranking first (62.5%). Furthermore, students reported a high level of satisfaction with the information provided through public relations campaigns. Statistically significant differences (α ≤ 0.05) were found attributable to the variables of university and college, whereas no significant differences were associated with gender or place of residence.
Conclusions: The findings indicate that the effectiveness of public relations campaigns in Palestinian universities depends on the effective use of digital communication channels and the provision of reliable information that meets prospective students' needs. Students' perceptions of these campaigns varied according to university and college, but did not differ significantly by gender or place of residence. These findings highlight the need to develop more effective digital communication strategies to enhance the recruitment of prospective students.
Recommendations: The study recommends strengthening university engagement with students and parents through outreach activities and innovative digital campaigns, while regularly updating university websites and providing accurate academic and career-related information.
Keywords: Public Relations, campaigns, Palestinian universities, students’ decision.
