Abstract

Background: Social entrepreneurship (SE) integrates business with social objectives to address economic, social, and environmental challenges, which is becoming crucial in developing countries like Indonesia. Objective: This study examines how SE literacy, public policy support, and personality traits of college students shape their career intentions to become social entrepreneurs. Method: Data were collected through Google Forms involving 517 students from Gadjah Mada University and the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. Data were analyzed using PLS-SEM with SmartPLS. Key Findings: The findings show that personality traits, social entrepreneurship literacy, and policy support significantly influence students' intentions to pursue careers in social entrepreneurship. Personality traits are the strongest predictor, both directly and indirectly through literacy, with openness identified as the most influential dimension. Conclusions: These results highlight the need for universities to strengthen social entrepreneurship education through integrated curricula and community-based learning, while governments and industries enhance support through targeted policies, incubation programs, and specific social enterprise regulations. Recommendations: Universities should integrate social entrepreneurship literacy into cross-disciplinary curricula through experiential and community-based learning models, while policymakers should design coherent, dedicated SE policy frameworks that combine incentives, regulatory clarity, and equitable access to funding and incubation. Future research should adopt longitudinal and cross-country designs, particularly within ASEAN contexts, to strengthen the generalizability of these findings.
