This research aims to clarify the essence of peace in Islam as an objective sought for the stability in life and security inside and outside the human soul and as a basis for man's relation with himself, with the others and with the universe round him. It also aims to clarify the nature of Jihad (holy war) in Islam and how it differs from the other forms of wars for materialistic, colonial or racial interests. Jihad in Islam is distinguished since it strives to achieve rightness and goodness and to provide security to man, every man. Therefore, peace and Jihad in Islam are two complementary rather than contradicting or opposing principles. They are two languages of Islamic discourse to achieve goodness. When the Language of peace feasible, the other language will not be used. When the barriers are put in the way of peace and doors are locked, the other language will inevitably be used because of its necessity within the general rules and morals of Islam.

يهدف هذا البحث إلى بيان حقيقة السلام، وكونه هدفا يسعى الإسلام لتحقيقه، وذلك لاستقرار الحياة، وبعث الأمن والأمان داخل النفس البشرية وخارجها، انطلاقا من كون السلام هو الأصل في علاقة الإنسان مع نفسه ومع غيره ومع الكون من حوله. كما وبينت طبيعة الجهاد في الإسلام، واختلافه عن أشكال الحروب التي تقوم لأطماع مادية أو استعمارية أو عنصرية، فهو جهاد متميز لإحقاق الحق، وإيصال الخير وتوفير الأمن للإنسان كل الإنسان. وبذلك فالسلام والجهاد مبدئان متكاملان في الإسلام لا متعارضان ولا متناقضان، بل هما لغتان للخطاب الإسلامي في إيصال الخير للناس، ومادامت لغة السلام مجدية وموصلة للخير فلا مجال لاستعمال الأخرى، وعندما تغلق الأبواب وتوضع الحواجز أمام لغة السلام، فلا مفر من استعمال اللغة الأخرى وتكون ضرورية ضمن قواعد وأخلاقيات الإسلام العامة.
