This paper studies, briefly, the definition of the orientalism, it’s reasons, goals, methods, fields, and how it effects the study of the Arabic legacy, and the Arabic concept. In addition to that, the paper studies the Dutch orientalist Dozy, who is an example of those who interested in Arabic studies, and it also concentrates on his efforts in the Arabic lexicography, and what his great lexicon “Supplement aux Dictionnaires Arabes”, which is translated to Arabic by Dr. Mohammed Saleem Al-Noua’imy, offered to Arabic studies or words. The paper presented his sources, method, then it compared it with the three modern basis of the lexicography: the content of the lexicon, explanations and definitions, then the interior and exterior arrangement of the subjects. At the end, the paper showed the effect of Dozy’s efforts on the research method, thought, and the clarification of the western scientists in general, and the orientalists specifically; and how they think of the East, the Arabic language and it’s legacy.
