Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of an assessment strategy based on performance in developing the mathematical thinking and the ability to solve problems that encounter the students at the secondary stage. The sample consisted of (74) female students at the first secondary class (scientific stream) in a school in Ma'daba. Two groups were formed; the first group was assigned as the experimental group where the new assessment strategy was applied; while the control group was assessed by the traditional method . The study lasted (12) weeks with an average of four hours weekly. After that, the researcher applied the mathematical thinking and the problem solving tests on both groups. The results of the study revealed that there was a significant statistical difference at α=0.05 between the mean scores of the two groups in favor of the experimental group on mathematical thinking ability and problem solving ability. The researcher recommended conducting more studies on alternative assessment strategies, and publishing special guidebooks for assessing students achievement in mathematics; constructing training programs for teachers; utilizing various exercises as homework and in the classroom. The tasks should offer students life-like problems and situations to promote students to think logically.

الملخص
هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى استقصاء فاعلية استراتيجية التقويم القائم على الأداء في تنمية التفكير الرياضي، والقدرة على حل المشكلات لدى طلبة المرحلة الثانوية. تكونت عينة الدراسة من (74) طالبة من طالبات الصف الأول الثانوي العلمي في مدرسة مأدبا الثانوية للإناث في محافظة مأدبا، تم تعيين الشعبة الأولى كمجموعة تجريبية، استخدمت استراتيجية التقويم القائم على الأداء في تقويم أداء الطالبات على المهام الأدائية المقدمة، والشعبة الثانية كمجوعة ضابطة تم تقويمها بالطريقة الاعتيادية. وقد استغرق تطبيق الدراسة مدة (12) أسبوعاً، بواقع (4) ساعات أسبوعياً، وبعد الانتهاء من الدراسة، تم تطبيق اختبار التفكير الرياضي، واختبار حل المشكلات. حيث أظهرت النتائج وجود فروق دالة إحصائياً بين المتوسطات الحسابية في اختباري التفكير الرياضي وحل المشكلات لصالح المجموعة التجريبية؛ وفي ضوء هذه النتائج، أوصى الباحث بإجراء المزيد من الدراسات حول استراتيجيات بديلة للتقويم، وإصدار أدلة خاصة لها في تقويم تحصيل الطلبة للرياضيات، ووضع برامج لتدريب المعلمين، كما دعا إلى التنويع في التدريبات الصفية، والواجبات المنزلية لتشمل مهمات أدائية تضع الطلبة في مواقف ومشكلات حياتية تحفزهم على التفكير بشكل منطقي.
