Abstract

This study aimed at detecting the relationship between family upbringing and self-concept among the students of Educational Sciences Faculty at the University of Jordan. The study sample consisted of (250) students, (93) of them were males, and (157) were females. Who were registered for the second semester of the academic year 2008/2009. The researchers used two instruments; the first was designed to measure the family upbringing pattern, and the other to measure self-concept. The results showed no statistically significant relationship between self-concept and (fathers’ and mothers’) upbringing pattern for both males and females on the total degree of the scale. While there was a positive relationship between family self-concept and the fathers’ upbringing pattern for males, and there was no statistically significant relationship between father s’ upbringing and self concept with its ethical, social and physical dimensions. The results also showed a positive statistically significant relationship between social self concept and the fathers’ upbringing pattern for females. In addition to that there was no statistically significant relationship regarding the other dimensions of self concept. On the other hand the results showed no significant statistical relationship of the mothers’ upbringing pattern with the total, but it showed a statistically significant positive relationship at the level of significance (0.05) between self-concept and the mother’s upbringing pattern. Regarding the other self concept dimensions (ethical, social, personal and physical) there was no significant relationship between them and the mothers’ upbringing pattern. As for the mothers’ upbringing pattern and its relationship with the males, the results indicated no statistically significant relationship between the self concept and the mothers’ upbringing pattern on the total. While for the other dimensions a positive statistically significant relationship was found between the family self concept and the mothers’ upbringing pattern, but no statistically significant relationship with the other dimensions (ethical, social, personal and physical). Also no statistically significant relationship for females on the total was found too, however there was a positive relationship on the physical dimension, and no significant relation on the other dimensions. The study recommended raising parents’ awareness, about using new meaningful and advanced upbringing methods, through media, seminars and conferences, the study also recommended the universities designing a course that aims at providing proper upbringing methods as basic requirement in all universities’ disciplines and levels.

هدفت الدراسة إلى الكشف عن العلاقة بين التنشئة الأسرية و مفهوم الذات لدى طلبة كلية العلوم التربوية في الجامعة الأردنية. وتكونت عينة الدراسة من (250) طالباً وطالبةً، يمثل الذكور منها (93) طالباً، وتمثل الإناث (157) طالبة، من طلبة كلية العلوم التربوية، المسجلين للفصل الدراسي الثاني للعام الجامعي 2008/2009، واستخدم الباحثان أداتين، صممت إحداهما لقياس نمط التنشئة الأسرية، والأخرى لقياس مفهوم الذات. وقد أظهرت النتائج عدم وجود علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين مفهوم الذات ونمط تنشئة الأب وتنشئة الأم، بالنسبة للذكور والإناث على للدرجة الكلية للمقياس، بينما هناك علاقة إيجابية بين مفهوم الذات الفرعية الأسرية ونمط تنشئة الأب بالنسبة للذكور، ولا يوجد علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين تنشئة الأب ومفهوم الذات بأبعادها الأخلاقية والاجتماعية والجسمية، كذلك كانت هناك علاقة إيجابية ذات دلالة إحصائية بين مفهوم الذات الاجتماعية ونمط تنشئة الأب بالنسبة للإناث، كما لم تظهر الدراسة وجود علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية على باقي أنماط مفهوم الذات الأخرى، وأشارت إلى عدم وجود علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين نمط تنشئة الأم على الكلي، وأظهرت الدراسة وجود علاقة إيجابية ذات دلالة إحصائية عند مستوى الدلالة (0.05) بين مفهوم الذات ونمط التنشئة للأم. وأما المحاور الأخرى لمفهوم الذات (الأخلاقية، والاجتماعية، والشخصية، والجسمية) فلم تبرز فيها علاقة إحصائية بينها وبين نمط تنشئة الأم. أما بالنسبة لنمط تنشئة الأم بالنسبة للذكور، فقد دلت النتائج على عدم وجود علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية بين مفهوم الذات ونمط التنشئة للأم على الكلي، بينما على الأبعاد الفرعية وجدت علاقة إيجابية ذات دلالة إحصائية بين مفهوم الذات الأسرية ونمط تنشئة الأم، ولم تظهر الدراسة علاقة دالة إحصائية على الأبعاد الأخرى (الأخلاقية، والاجتماعية، والشخصية، والجسمية) لمفهوم الذات، كذلك لم تظهر علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية بالنسبة للإناث على المقياس الكلي، بينما وجدت علاقة إيجابية على بعد الذات الجسمية، ولا تبرز علاقة دالة إحصائياً على باقي أبعاد الذات الأخرى. وأوصت الدراسة بتوعية الآباء والأمهات من خلال وسائل الإعلام والندوات والمؤتمرات، بأهمية أساليب تعاملهم مع أبنائهم بطرق علمية متقدمة وهادفة، وأكدت الدراسة كذلك ضرورة أن تقوم الجامعات بطرح مساق يهدف إلى التنشئة الأسرية السليمة للأبناء كأحد المتطلبات الأساسية في الجامعة بحيث يوجّه إلى كافة التخصصات والمستويات.
