Abstract
This study aimed to determine estimations of schools principals at Ramallah and Al-Beireh governorate of actual and desired participation of local community institutions in school administration. The study was undertaken at the end of 2008-2009 school year. A stratified random sample of (157) female and male principals was selected; and a valid and reliable 49-item questionnaire was used. Results showed that the degree of actual participation of local community institutions in school administration as estimated by principals was moderate, whereas the degree of desired participation was high. Also, results showed no significant differences among principals' estimations with regard to gender, qualification, experience, school location, school type, and supervisory body; while there were significant differences in estimations of future participation with regard to school type, in favor of male schools in comparison to co-education schools.

الملخص
جاءت هذه الدراسةُ لتعرّف تقديرات مديري مدارس محافظة رام الله والبيرة الفلسطينيّة لواقع مشاركة مؤسّسات المجتمع المحليّ في الإدارة المدرسيّة وللمشاركة المأمول فيها. وتمّ إجراء الدراسة نهاية العام الدراسيّ 2008/2009 على عيّنةٍ طبقيّةٍ عشوائيّة شملت (157) مديراً من الجنسين؛ واستُخدِمت فيها استبانة خاصّة ضمّت (49) فقرةً موزّعةً في أربعة مجالات، بعد التحقّق من صدقها وثباتها. وأشارت النتائجُ أنّ درجة مشاركة مؤسّسات المجتمع المحليّ في الإدارة المدرسيّة، كما يراها المديرون، متوسّطةٌ، بينما كانت درجةُ المشاركة المأمول فيها مرتفعة. وأظهرت النتائجُ عدم وجود فروقٍ ذات دلالةٍ إحصائيّةٍ عند مستوى (α ≤ 0.05) في تقديرات المديرين لدرجة المشاركة الفعليّة والمأمولة تعزى لمتغيّرات جنس المدير، ومؤهّله، وخبرته، وموقع المدرسة، وجنسها، والجهة المشرفة عليها، سوى التقديرات للمشاركة المأمولة بحسب متغيّر جنس المدرسة لصالح مدارس الذكور مقارنةً بالمدارس المختلطة.
