Abstract

The case study aims at identifying problems that confront Balqa Applied University faculty members, from their viewpoint.  It also aims at finding out whether these problems are influenced by gender, the held academic qualification, academic rank, or the years of teaching experience. The participants in this case study are comprised of faculty members in Balqa Applied University during the second semester of the academic year 2010/2011.  The total number of male/female participating faculty members is (1218). The researcher chose a random, cross specimen of (305) male/female members, which represents (25%) of the study's participants.  They have been distributed a form prepared by him that includes 38 items, each of which represents a problem.  (291) forms have been endorsed and have undergone statistical analysis using the SPSS software. The study has concluded that faculty members in Balqa Applied University suffer from (33) significant problems, (3) medium problems, and two weak ones. The study also surmised that there are no conspicuous, statistically proven differences in the problems confronted by faculty members that were biased by gender, academic qualification, nor in any other teaching aspects; moreover, there are no conspicuous, statistically proven differences among  faculty members with respect to encountering academic problems as a result of their varying academic ranks and across all teaching aspects.  The only statistically proven exclusion was the difference based on academic research.  There was a difference between the ranks of associate and assistant professors for the benefit of the latter, in addition to the presence of statistically proven differences among the faculty members with respect to encountering problems based on the variable of their years of experience and across all teaching aspects.  The study has pointed out several recommendations.
