The Islamic Banking and Financial system is said to be lacking a comprehensive study that identifies its general conceptual framework. In turn, that lack of conceptual framework has evidently impacted its actual implementations and made the whole industry looks like its conventional counterparty. In an endeavor to avoid the undesired implementations and to enhance the performance of the industry, a significant body of scholarship by many researchers has evolved. However, the industry has still been under a great criticism of its performance. This study aims at exploring the industry of Islamic banking and finance by examining and discussing the main trends in the current literature. Additionally, this study has adopted the qualitative methodology, as such a critical review as well as a document analysis of the literature will be conducted. This research has adopted the inductive methodology by reviewing the current literature and critically analyzing it. This research has concluded that the industry of Islamic banking and finance is very comprehensive by nature, because of its direct involvement in investment and trade, partnerships and financial intermediation.

افتقرت نشأة الوساطة المالية الإسلامية المصرفية لدراسة شاملة، تحدد الإطار المفاهيمي العام لها، وقد انعكس ذلك سلباً على تطبيقاتها العملية التي جعلتها تقترب من الوساطة المالية الربوية، مما أدى إلى تعدد اتجاهات الباحثين فيها، بغية التخلص من التطبيقات السلبية لها، والنهوض بها لأفضل مستوى، غير أنها لازالت تتعرض لانتقادات شتى في أدائها. وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التّعريف بالوَساطة الماليّة الإسلاميّة المصرفية، والوقوف على اتجاهات الباحثين فيها ومناقشتها، للوصول إلى الرأي المختار فيها والأكثر توافقاً مع الشريعة ومقاصدها. وقد اعتمد البحث على المنهج الكيفي وبناء عليه فانه سيقوم بإجراء مراجعة نقدية وتحليلية للدراسات السابقة، كما اعتمد على المنهج التحليلي النقدي، حيث قام بتحليل أقوال العلماء ومناقشتها ونقدها. وتوصل البحث لنتائج عديدة ومن أبرزها أن الوساطة المالية الإسلامية المصرفية، شاملة بطبيعتها، فهي تقوم على ممارسة الاستثمار والتجارة بشكل مباشر، وتشتمل على المشاركات والمداينات، وبناء على ذلك فقد تحفظ البحث على الاتجاهات السابقة التي تعرضت لماهية الوساطة المالية الإسلامية المصرفية.
