Abstract
The study aimed at detecting the level of reading comprehension among the students of tenth grade in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the light of some variables. In order to achieve this aim the researcher designed a test of 29 questions of multiple choice. The test has been applied to a sample of (98) male students and (82) female students. The results revealed that the level of reading comprehension among students of tenth grade was moderate on the types of aloud and silent reading. The results also revealed that there are statistical significant differences at the level of (α ≤ 0.05) on the level of reading comprehension among the students of tenth grade with regard to gender in favour of females, as well as according to academic achievement in Arabic in favour of those with higher achievement. The study recommended that there is a need to train teachers of Arabic language to use modern teaching strategies for the development of Reading Comprehension skills in all academic levels.
