The study tackles applying the semiotic approach by studying the close paratexts (title, preamble and dedication) in Haifa Betar's novel Ahlam Nazefah. It starts by comparing the external title according to the American philosopher Charl Sandoz Peirce's semiotics dealing with deliberative, inferential and synthetic dimensions. Correspondence of internal titles to their context is tested as signifiers and signifieds because those titles are the names of active characters in the novel. After that, the study moves to discuss the semiotics of the preamble focusing on two sides: The first is the incipient expression the preamble leave in the reader's mind and his harmony with later incidents of the novel. The second is its expressional ability as a signifier accepts many signifieds in case of various readers.

عني البحث بتطبيق المنهج السيميائي في دراسته العتباتِ النصيةَ القريبة متمثلةً بـ (العنوان، الافتتاحية، الإهداء) في رواية (أحلام نازفة) لهيفاء بيطار، فابتدأ بمقاربة العنوان الخارجي وفق سيميائية الفيلسوف الأمريكي شارل ساندرس بيرس (Ch.S.Perice) التي تُعنى بثلاثة أبعاد، هي: البعد التداولي، والبعد الدلالي، والبعد التركيبي .كما جرى اختبار مدى مطابقة العناوين الداخلية لمعنوناتها بوصفهن دالات ومدلولات، ولاسيما أنَّ معظم تلك العناوين كانت أسماء شخصيات فاعلة في الرواية. انتقل البحث بعدها إلى دراسة سيميائية الافتتاحية، مركزًا على جانبين: الأول هو الانطباع الأولي الذي تخلِّفه الافتتاحية في نفس القارئ، ومدى تواؤمه مع الأحداث اللاحقة للرواية .والثاني هو قدرتها الإيحائية بوصفها دالًا يقبل تعدد المدلولات ولاسيما في حالة تعدد القرّاء. أما الإهداء، فقد جرتْ دراسته بالنظر إليه في ذاته أولًا لبيان طبيعته، ثم دراسته على ضوء علاقته بالنص الروائي.
