Online Self-Presentation and Its Relationship to The Level of Exposure to Cyber-Harassment Among A Sample of the University of Jordan Students

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the level of online self-presentation and its relationship to the level of exposure to cyber-harassment among a sample of the University of Jordan students consisting of (385) male and female bachelor's students from the Faculty of Arts. The questionnaires that are built for the level of online self-presentation and level of exposure to cyber-harassment were constructed and evaluated for their validity and reliability. The results indicated that the level of online self-presentation and the level of exposure to cyber-harassment among students were moderate, the level of online self-presentation was positively correlated with the level of exposure to cyber-harassment with statistically significant values, and showed that there were statistically significant differences in the level of online self-presentation attributed to sex in favor of males and the level of exposure to cyber-harassment are attributed to sex but was in favor of females, the average number of hours of Internet usage daily is in favor of 6 hours or more, and there are no differences attributable to the academic year.

الملخص

هدفت الدراسة الحالية التعرف إلى مستوى العرض الذاتي عبر الإنترنت وعلاقته بمستوى التعرض للتحرش السيبراني لدى عينة من طلبة الجامعة الأردنية، والتي تكوّنت من (385) طالبًا وطالبة في مرحلة البكالوريوس من كلية الآداب. ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة تم بناء كل من مقياس مستوى العرض الذاتي عبر الإنترنت، ومقياس مستوى التعرض للتحرش السيبراني، كما تم التحقق من صدقهما وثباتهما. وأشارت النتائج إلى أن مستوى العرض الذاتي عبر الإنترنت ومستوى التعرض للتحرش السيبراني جاء متوسطًا، وأن مستوى العرض الذاتي عبر الإنترنت ارتبط إيجابيًا بقيم ذات دلالة إحصائية مع مستوى التعرض للتحرش السيبراني كما أظهرت وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في مستوى العرض الذاتي عبر الإنترنت تُعزى للجنس لصالح ذكور ووجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في مستوى التعرض للتحرش السيبراني تُعزى للجنس، ولكن لصالح الإناث، ومتوسط عدد ساعات استخدام الإنترنت يوميًا لصالح (6) ساعات فأكثر، وعدم وجود فروق تُعزى للسنة الدراسية.
