Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the level of Facebook-based social support, the level of phubbing behavior, and the relative contribution of Facebook-based social support to predicting phubbing behavior among Al al-Bayt University students. Methodology: The study sample consisted of 312 male and female students at Al al-Bayt University (111 males, 201 females), selected by convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Facebook-Based Social Support Scale and the Phubbing Behavior Scale, after establishing their validity and reliability. Results: The findings indicated that the overall level of Facebook-based social support was high. At the dimensional level, emotional support and perceived support were high, whereas informational support and negative social support were at a moderate level. The overall level of phubbing behavior was moderate across all dimensions. For the sample as a whole, Facebook-based social support was able to predict phubbing behavior, accounting for 22.8% of the variance in phubbing behavior. Within the predictive model, the predictor variables accounted for 13.5% of the variance in negative social support, 5% in perceived support, 3.1% in emotional support, and 1.2% in informational support. The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in phubbing behavior according to gender, academic specialization, or daily duration of Facebook use. Conclusions: The study recommends reducing the negative effects of Facebook-based social support by educating students about the risks of exposure to negative content and by promoting a culture of healthy interaction on Facebook through workshops and training courses in digital awareness.

الملخص

الأهداف: هَدَفَتْ الدّراسة لمَعْرِفَةِ مُستوى الدعم الاجتماعي من خلال الفيسبوك، ومُستوى سلوك الفوبينق، ودرجةِ الإسهام النّسبي للدعم الاجتماعي من خلال الفيسبوك في سلوك الفوبينق لدى طلبة جامعة آل البيت. المنهجية: تكوّنت عيّنة الدّراسة من (312) طالب وطالبة في جامعة آل البيت (111 ذكراً، 201 أنثى) اختيروا بالطّريقةِ المُتَيَسّرَةِ. تمّ جمع البيانات باستخدام مقياس الدعم الاجتماعي من خلال الفيسبوك، ومِقْياس سلوك الفوبينق؛ وذلك بعد التأكّد من الصّدق والثّبات. النتائج: أشارتْ نتائجُ الدّراسة إلى أنّ مُستوى الدعم الاجتماعي من خلال الفيسبوك الكلّي كان مُرتفعاً، وللأبعاد جاء مُستوى بُعدي (الدعم العاطفي، والدعم المدرك) مُرتفعاً، وجاءَ مُستوى بُعدي (الدعم المعلوماتي، والدعم الاجتماعي السلبي) بالمُستوى المُتوسّط، وكان مُستوى سلوك الفوبينق الكلّي متوسّطاً لجميع الأبعاد. وأظْهَرَتْ نتائجُ الدّراسة للعيّنة ككُل قدرةَ الدعم الاجتماعي من خلال الفيسبوك على التنبؤ بسلوك الفوبينق؛ حيث فسّرا ما مِقْدَارُه (22.8%) من سلوك الفوبينق، وأنّ المُتغيّرات المُتنبّئة فسّرتْ ماْ مقدارُه (13.5%) من بُعد (الدعم الاجتماعي السلبي)؛ وأنّ المُتغيّرات المُتنبّئة فسّرتْ ماْ مقدارُه (5%) من بُعد (الدعم المدرك)؛ وأنّ المُتغيّرات المُتنبّئة فسّرتْ ماْ مقدارُه (3.1%) من بُعد (الدعم العاطفي)؛ وأنّ المُتغيّرات المُتنبّئة فسّرتْ ماْ مقدارُه (1.2%) من بُعد (الدعم المعلوماتي). كما أشارت النتائج إلى عدم وجود فروق دالة لمتغيّرات الجنس، والتخصّص الأكاديمي، ومدّة استخدام الفيسبوك في اليوم الواحد. الاستنتاجات: توصي الدراسة للحدّ من التأثيرات السلبية للدعم الاجتماعي؛ بتوعية الطلبة حول مخاطر التعرض للمحتوى السلبي، والعمل على تعزيز ثقافة التفاعل الصحي عبر الفيسبوك، من خلال ورش عمل، ودورات تدريبية في الوعي الرقمي.
