Abstract

Objective: As the title indicates, this study analyzes actantial shifting out in Emile Habibi’s short story “Mendelbaum’s Gate,” traces the mechanisms through which it operates, and examines the functions it performs at the level of discourse. It investigates the various forms of reported discourse in the story—dialogue, reported monologue, immediate discourse, and metanarrative—through which actantial shifting out is achieved. The study identifies the structural positions in which these forms appear and clarifies the functions they fulfill within the discourse of the story. Methodology: The methodological framework is grounded in the discourse semiotics of A. J. Greimas and his student Joseph Courtés. Results: The study concludes that actantial shifting out is both analytically productive and practically effective, and that its role in enhancing the story’s realism and constructing its broader significations becomes evident through analysis. Recommendations: The research recommends a critical approach that brings together actantial shifting out and reported discourse, drawing on insights from narrative and discourse semiotics as well as enunciative narratology.

الملخص

يعالج البحثُ إجراء الفصل العاملي في قصة إيميل حبيبي "بوّابة مندلباوم"، ويتتبَّعُ آليّة اشتغاله فيها، ويتناولُ أشكالَ الخطاب المنقول في القصّة، التي يتحقَّقُ بوساطتها هذا الإجراء، فيتوقَّفُ عند بنية الحوار، والمونولوغ المنقول، والخطاب الفوري، والقصة في القصة، ويعالِجُ المواضع التي وردت فيها، ويستجلي الوظائف التي اضطلعت بها في داخل خطاب القصة. المنهج: ويستند في منهجه إلى نظرية أ. ج. غريماس (A. J. Greimas) وتلميذه جوزيف كورتيس (J. Curtis) في السيميائية الخطابية. أهم النتائج: وينتهي إلى أنَّ لإجراء الفصل العاملي فاعليّةً في التطبيق، ومردوديّةً في التحليل، يتبيَّنُ دوره في إضفاء الواقعية على خطاب القصة، وبناء دلالته. التوصيات: ويوصي بإجراء مقاربة نقدية بين إجراء الفصل العاملي والخطاب المنقول، والإفادة ممّا أتاحته السيميائية السردية والخطابية، والسرديات التلفُّظية.
