Abstract

The study aimed to explore alternative conceptions about the digestive system among life sciences teachers in the Jerash Directorate of Education in light of their teaching experience, educational qualifications, academic achievement in their bachelor's degree, and gender. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, with a sample of 56 teachers selected through Random stratified sample.The study instrument was a multiple-choice test. The results indicated that the highest percentage of participants who held completely incorrect conceptions was in the domain of environmental influences and external factors on digestion (34.80%), followed by digestive system disorders and diseases (14.64%), nutrient absorption and mechanical digestion (10.42%), chemical and enzymatic digestion (10.19%), and the lowest percentage was in the structure and basic composition of the digestive system (5.35%). Additionally, 20.83% of the participants exhibited alternative conceptions in 70% of the 30 test items. The highest percentage of completely incorrect responses (69.64% of the sample) was observed in the item assessing knowledge of the effects of dietary factors on digestion. Furthermore, the results showed no statistically significant differences in alternative conceptions about digestion based on educational qualification, gender, years of experience, or academic achievement. In light of these findings, the study recommended conducting further research to explore the underlying causes of these deep-seated alternative conceptions, identifying more effective variables for detecting differences among teachers in their understanding of digestion, and developing targeted remedial programs to address these gaps in comprehension.

هدفت الدراسة الكشف عن التصورات البديلة حول الجهاز الهضمي لدى معلمي العلوم الحياتية في مديرية تربية جرش في ضوء خبراتهم، ومؤهلاتهم التربوية، وتقديرهم الأكاديمي في درجة البكالوريوس، ومتغير الجنس. واتبعت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي ، وتألفت عينة الدراسة من (56) معلمًا ومعلمة تم اختيارهم بالطريقة الطبقية العشوائية وكانت أداة الدراسة اختبار اختيار من متعدد. وأظهرت النتائج أنَّ نسبة أفراد عينة الدراسة الذين كان لديهم تصورات خطأ تمامًا في مجالات الجهاز الهضمي كانت أعلى ما يمكن في مجال: التأثيرات البيئية والعوامل الخارجية في الهضم (ككل)، (%34.80)، تلاه مجال الاضطرابات والأمراض المتعلقة بالجهاز الهضمي (ككل)، (%14.64)، تلاه مجال امتصاص العناصر الغذائية والهضم الميكانيكي (ككل)، (%10.42)، تلاه مجال العمليات الكيميائية والإنزيمية في الهضم (ككل)، (%10.19)، وأقلها في مجال الهيكلية والتركيبة الأساسية للجهاز الهضمي (ككل)، بلغت (%5.35). وأن هناك ما نسبته (20.83%) من أفراد الدراسة لديهم تصورات بديلة في (70 %) من فقرات الاختبار البالغ عددها (30) فقرة. وأن أعلى نسبة لعدد الأفراد الذين أجابوا إجابة خطأ تماماً (69.64 % من أفراد العينة) تركزت على الفقرة (معرفة تأثير العوامل الغذائية في الهضم). وأظهرت النتائج عدم وجود فروق دالة إحصائيًا لمجالات اختبار التصورات البديلة حول الهضم تعزى لمتغيرات المؤهل التربوي، والجنس، وسنوات الخبرة، والتقدير في درجة البكالوريوس. وفي ضوء النتائج وتفسيرها أوصت الدراسة بضرورة إجراء دراسات مستقبلية لاستكشاف أسباب التصورات البديلة العميقة وتحديد متغيرات أكثر فعالية في الكشف عن الفروق بين المعلمين حول عملية الهضم، وتطوير برامج علاجية محددة لتصحيح هذه الفجوات في الفهم.
