Ami: This study aims to explore the extent to which visual arts students in higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman practice visual inquiry based on metacognitive thinking skills. It also seeks to examine whether there are significant differences in students’ responses based on certain personal and academic variables regarding their engagement in visual inquiry processes. Methodology: A descriptive-analytical research methodology was employed, with a sample of (186) male and female students. To achieve the study’s objectives and answer its questions, a questionnaire was developed comprising (41) indicators related to the visual inquiry practices students engage in during the stages of producing their art projects—practices that reflect metacognitive thinking skills. Results: The findings revealed that the level of engagement in visual inquiry based on metacognitive thinking skills was high among students. Moreover, no statistically significant differences were found in students’ responses according to the examined variables. Recommendations: The study recommends emphasizing the concept of “visual inquiry” within academic curricula as a central construct comprising multiple indicators, which can support the organization of metacognitive thinking processes during the stages of artistic project development.

: الهدف: هدفت الدراسة إلى تحديد درجة ممارسة طلبة الفنون البصرية في مؤسسات التعليم العالي بسلطنة عُمان لعمليات الاستقصاء البصري القائم على مهارات التفكير ما وراء المعرفة. كما هدفت الدراسة إلى تحديد دلالات الفروق المعنوية بين استجابات الطلبة وفقاً لبعض المتغيرات الشخصية والأكاديمية في ممارساتهم لعمليات الاستقصاء البصري القائم على مهارات التفكير ما وراء المعرفي. المنهج: تم استخدام المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، وتكونت العينة من (186) طالب وطالبة، ومن أجل تحقيق أهداف الدراسة والإجابة على أسئلتها تم تصميم استبانة للطلبة تتضمن (41) مؤشرًا ترتبط بجوانب الاستقصاء البصري التي يمارسها الطلبة خلال مراحل إنتاج مشروعاتهم الفنية تعكس مهارات التفكير ما وراء المعرفة. النتائج: توصلت نتائج الدراسة إلى أن درجة ممارسة عمليات الاستقصاء البصري القائم على مهارات التفكير ما وراء المعرفي لدى طلبة الفنون البصرية في مؤسسات التعليم العالي بسلطنة عُمان جاءت مرتفعة، وأنه لا توجد فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في استجابات الطلبة وفقا لمتغيرات البحث. التوصيات: أوصت الدراسة بضرورة التأكيد على مفهوم "الاستقصاء البصري" عبر المقررات الأكاديمية بصفته مصطلحًا ضروريًا يتضمن العديد من المؤشرات التي يمكن أن تسهم في تنظيم عمليات التفكير ما وراء المعرفة والتي يمارسها الطلبة أثناء مراحل إنتاج المشروعات في المجالات الفنية المختلفة.
